A Sailor’s Death

And thus he came and thus he sighed………
And thus he feared and thus he died…….
And life goes on and life goes slow………
Till the sailor at sea is too old to row.

And time answers all, the sea and the sky……
And time passes on and time must die…..
And the water dries and the sky turns black…….
Till the sailor at sea at last comes back.
And the sound is stilled from a beaten breast……..
And all the world seems to be at rest………
And the box is long and wide and dark………
And there’s no one singing and there is no lark.
And once more seen and set again on board………….
And once more at sea and a trip to his lord……..
And one last dip in a box of bark………
And the sea is silent and the sea is stark.
